This was my first time visit to Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur (BESU) or IIEST for the mozilla ProgramIIEST event. It was a two days event, happened on 28th to 29th march, 2014. The “ProgramIIEST”, a symposium of programmers and designers. A totally dev-centric event organized by Mozilla Kolkata Community mainly focusing on RUST programming language, Open Badges and Persona and their applications. This time focusing of three-dimensional aspect of software engineering and attracting and gathering engineers, designers and developers from students to professionals. The name “ProgramIIEST” came from the fact that BESU has recently been converted to an ‘Institute of National Importance’ and name has been changed to Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology [IIEST], Shibpur.

It was a first time introduced RUST Programming in this event. On the very first day planning to conduct a workshop on RUST programming (from basic to advance) and a amateur level programming exercise to familiarize the programmers with RUST. Manish explain a lots more stuff regarding RUST. Audience are packed full and asked more question related RUST and after the section people are solving their queries about RUST. This was very new things that’s why people are excited about this.
After Lunch break Deb, Sayak, Jai, Saurabh talked about some mozilla projects and contribution areas. It’s very interesting first time Highlighted Open Badge Project in a nice way and organized a competition for design the Open Badge. Then Click some pictures group photos and wrap up for the day.
On 2nd day a contest was held. The questions will be based on from basic algorithm, data structure to advance topics in computer science (like networking). An instant documentation and resources was provided to the contestants. In the next section was Persona Hack, an introductory session was taken on utility of open standard of authorization and persona‘s contribution. This session, participants was taught how to implement persona for building web app. A hackathon was organized mainly focussing on ‘applying persona in web-development’. Contestants tried to make web-app with compulsory use of persona.
